SOURCE UNKNOWN - various artists
Camembert Électrique presents a new compilation of experimental music and hybrid sonic forms.
Origin: unknown.
Date: unknown.
Purpose: unknown.
What happens when a sound recording survives but everything around it disappears?
SOURCE UNKNOWN brings together artists from around the world who were invited to imagine anonymous sonic documents, orphaned archives and recordings whose origins have been lost.
A cassette without a label.
A damaged hard drive recovered from an abandoned building.
A fragment of a scientific recording.
A transmission from an unknown location.
A memory with no name attached to it.
The pieces gathered here do not follow a single genre or aesthetic. Ambient, drone, field recordings, musique concrète, electroacoustic music, noise, spoken word, tape manipulation, experimental electronics and other hybrid approaches coexist throughout the compilation.
Some recordings may feel like evidence. Others like fragments of memories, transmissions, field documents or traces of events that can no longer be reconstructed.
There is no explanation to be found here.
The source is unknown.
The history is gone.
Only the sound remains.
SOURCE UNKNOWN is available now on Bandcamp as a free download / name your price release.

In 1977, the Voyager 1 and 2 probes left Earth carrying the Golden Record, a sound and visual message intended for potential extraterrestrial life. Nearly fifty years later, Camembert Électrique envisions the launch of a new probe: Voyager 13.
We’re proud to announce the release of TABLA ON TABLA, a compilation dedicated to the tabla, the emblematic percussion instrument of Indian classical music, approached here as raw sonic material and a field for contemporary experimentation.
Step into Icelock Continuum, a sonic journey where cold becomes substance. Ice breathes, cracks, and unfolds into strange textures and suspended vibrations.
