Studies in tabla and rhythmic matter
We’re proud to announce the release of TABLA ON TABLA, a compilation dedicated to the tabla, the emblematic percussion instrument of Indian classical music, approached here as raw sonic material and a field for contemporary experimentation.
Across this compilation, artists from diverse backgrounds explore the many possibilities of the tabla — acoustic or sampled — filtering it through their own languages: electronic, ambient, experimental, noise, and hybrid forms.
Far from a traditional framework, the tabla becomes texture, pulse, rhythmic architecture, or deconstructed fragment. At times foregrounded, at times dissolved into sonic matter, it moves between heritage and transformation.
TABLA ON TABLA is an invitation to listen differently — to hear rhythm as space, percussion as material, and the instrument as a shifting concept.

À travers cette compilation, des artistes issus de divers horizons explorent les multiples possibilités du tabla — acoustique ou samplé — en le traversant de leurs langages propres : électronique, ambient, expérimental, noise, formes hybrides.
Loin d’une approche traditionnelle, le tabla devient ici texture, pulsation, architecture rythmique ou fragment déconstruit. Tantôt au centre, tantôt dissous dans la matière sonore, il circule entre héritage et transformation.
TABLA ON TABLA est une invitation à écouter autrement : à percevoir le rythme comme espace, la percussion comme matière, et l’instrument comme concept en mouvement.
