Reid Karris - Terminal Lucidity
Camembert Électrique presents Terminal Lucidity, a new work by American improviser, composer and experimentalist Reid Karris.
Two sides. One movement. Something moves forward, something returns.
Built around two versions of the same piece, Terminal Lucidity creates a strange circular space where time seems to lose its usual direction. One side moves forward while the other moves backwards, each revealing something of the other in the process.
Between presence and disappearance, life and death, beginning and ending, the piece inhabits a territory where opposites become difficult to separate. Sounds emerge, recede and return, slowly transforming as the two sides of the work inform one another.
Based in the Chicagoland area, Reid Karris has spent years developing a distinctive approach to experimental music through prepared guitars, extended techniques, percussion, manipulated field recordings and noise. His work moves freely between improvisation and conceptual composition, treating sound as a material to be explored, manipulated and reshaped.
With Terminal Lucidity, Karris offers a concise and deeply immersive work in which repetition, reversal and transformation become part of the same circular movement.
