Deficit & Letargy - Alchemy

Alchemy is the art of transformation, where matter, energy and the unknown converge in the pursuit of something beyond their original state. On Alchemy, Deficit & Letargy bring this ancient quest into an experimental electronic landscape shaped by thunderous beats, acidic drones and industrial textures.

Drawing on the symbolism of the Magnum Opus, the album unfolds around the successive stages of alchemical transformation: Nigredo, Albedo and Rubedo. Lead becomes gold, chaos moves towards equilibrium, and the Philosopher’s Stone emerges as a metaphor for the point where opposing forces find resonance. Blending occult references with deliberately obscure scientific language, Alchemy imagines transmutation as a process in which the boundaries between matter, energy and time begin to dissolve.

Behind Deficit is Vyacheslav Ismagilov, born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. His experimental electronic music draws on a wide range of influences, combining contemporary electronic approaches with elements of Uzbek musical heritage and traditional Central Asian instruments. His work explores the intersections of sound, culture and experimentation, developing a distinctive and deeply personal sonic language.

Letargy is the solo project of Artem Vochel, now based in Moscow, Russia. Originally created in Tashkent in 2003, the project moves through ambient, dark ambient, instrumental music and post-black, exploring dark atmospheres, contrasting textures and introspective soundscapes.

The two artists have already crossed paths musically, including on Asymptotics, Deficit’s 2026 album, where Letargy appears on the track Behavior 2. With Alchemy, their collaboration brings together their respective approaches in a meeting point between IDM, industrial music and experimental electronics.

Across its six tracks - Rebis, Alkahest, Magisterium, Transmutation, Philosopher’s Stone and Quintessence - the album follows a symbolic journey of transformation, from the dissolution of matter to the pursuit of a new state of being.

Deficit & Letargy - Alchemy is out now on Camembert Électrique.
